“It looks like you’ve got four hundred and fifty thousand tickets available. Do you want to redeem all of them tonight?”

Cameron and I both stare at the prize counter clerk.

“Sorry, did you say four hundred and fifty?” I scan the shelves and take in all the little trinkets and stuffed animals, all redeemable for anywhere from one to five hundred tickets.

“No, ma’am. Four hundred and fifty thousand,” the clerk clarifies.

“Damn, Astrid. I told you that you kicked my ass.” Cam nudges me with his elbow.

“That’s a ton of prizes,” I say, still taking in all the options. From the looks of it, I can get one of everything and still have some tickets left over.

Cam points to a teddy bear close to six feet tall hanging up in a corner that I hadn’t noticed. Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees.

“She’ll take that,” he says to the clerk before turning to me and winking. “For when I’m on the road.”

Sweet Jesus. I’m pretty sure I just melted into a big puddle on the floor.

We finish redeeming all the tickets for as many prizes as we can and exit the arcade, laughing at how hard we’re struggling to carry everything.

“Please don’t be offended, but I’m going to need to set this stuff in the back before I open your door for you,” Cam says as we approach his SUV.

I laugh, “I’ll give you a pass this time.”

Cam opens the rear hatch and throws the things he’s carrying inside before turning and doing the same with the things I’m carrying. We round the SUV, he opens the passenger door for me, and I climb in.

A second later, Cam opens the rear driver’s side door and puts the giant teddy bear into the seat. He even buckles it in before slamming the car door closed. I’m laughing as he gets behind the wheel.

As we drive away from the arcade, I scroll through Cameron’s Spotify and pick some music for us to listen to. I find a classic rock playlist and hit shuffle.

The first song comes on and Cam starts drumming his fingers on the steering wheel and singing along. He looks over at me and holds out his hand, and I take it. He traces the line of my index finger with his thumb as he continues to drum on the steering wheel with his other hand. I sigh contentedly, realizing how completely normal this all feels.

“What’s that smile for, gorgeous?” Cameron’s soft voice drifts into my thoughts.

“I was just thinking about how much I enjoyed all of this. I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun on a date.”

He glances over at me with a surprised look. “I don’t know if I believe that.”

My eyes drop to my lap, and I watch his thumb as he continues to trace circles on my hand. I’m not proud of this part of my past.

“It’s true. Besides a few casual dates I had in high school and college, Landon was my only serious boyfriend.
